Stephanie has taught Art Appreciation, Art History I, Art History II, History of Photography and Graphic Design, Introduction to Drawing, Figure Drawing, Introduction to Painting, and Advanced Painting.  She has given lectures live in classrooms and taught distance learning Art History courses.

   Her philosophy of instruction is one that encourages discipline and the practice of various techniques, and an understanding of composition/design while presenting projects as "problems" to be solved creatively with the ultimate end of developing one's individual voice in the art world.

   In Fall 2008, she is teaching History of Photography and Graphic Design, Art History I DL-WWW, Art Appreciation DL-WWW, Art History II, Introduction to Painting at NWACC.  She is also a guest lecturer for Seminar in Art Criticism at the University of Arkansas.  The course descriptions are as follows:

 

HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND GRAPHIC DESIGN

   History of Photography and Graphic Design is a survey course providing a broad introduction to the nature, vocabulary, media, and history of the graphic arts, showing examples from many cultures. By developing an interest and awareness in the history of the graphic arts, the student will be better prepared to bring an informed perspective to the cultivation of graphic art in his/her own community, develop an understanding and appreciation of graphic art history of other times and cultures, participate in cultural awareness as an educated person, and promote the enjoyment of art. This course also seeks to link the graphic art timeline and the fine art timeline in a meaningful and informative way.

 

ART HISTORY I  DL-WWW

    This course will introduce you to the defining phases of the Western world’s artistic tradition and span from about 30,000 years BCE to the Gothic Era. The story of Western art will unfold in its full historical, social, religious, economic, and cultural contexts. Artwork covered includes architecture, painting, sculpture, and media.

This course will introduce you to the defining phases of the Western world’s artistic tradition and span from Giotto in the Early Renaissance to the present day. The story of Western art will unfold in its full historical, social, religious, economic, and cultural contexts. Artwork covered includes architecture, painting, sculpture, and modern media.

 

INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING   

    A basic creative approach to painting that includes color mixing and techniques, still life, landscape, and portrait painting.
